Our Story

There I was, standing on a pier. One hand waving goodbye to our real-life superhero as he boarded a ship to head out on deployment, while the other hand held onto a double stroller loaded with our two-week-old baby girl and BUSY 18-month-old little boy.

A million thoughts ran through my mind as I fought back tears in that moment. Everything led back to “how am I going to do this by myself?”

Thankfully, during that crazy time, I didn’t have to do it alone. Friends and family showed up while my husband couldn’t. Despite desperately missing him, I was able to thrive because of how my village showed up for us.

That experience sparked my interest in the broader experience of motherhood. My instinct was that moms needed community to thrive — but when I started gathering hard data from surveys and mom groups, lightning struck and I realized I was only half right.

Women absolutely do need their community. But it wasn’t a diaper bag keeping them from getting out the door… it was dressing themselves, and the crushing load that women carry on the home front.

Once this realization hit, so much became crystal clear. OF COURSE it’s difficult to rejoin society when you’re in the thick of one of the most challenging and vulnerable seasons of your life. From then on, my mission was clear: create elegant solutions to reduce the mental load for moms. With that vision in mind, Plaît was born.

We designed a dress with a bend-over-friendly neckline and hemline for all the picking up of toys, retrieving of sippy cups, and kissing of boo-boos that happens with tiny humans. And because with littles you’re constantly on the move, we added sewn-in, bathroom-friendly shorts with a revolutionary pocket design that can be accessed from the outside of the dress — without pulling the skirt up.

So whether you’re trying to finish your coffee while it’s still hot, or need to grab your phone fast enough to capture that thing your kid will only ever do once — you’re set up to move at the speed of your new life.
